Miele Project Highlight: First Light, Melbourne

In a bold move to combine cutting-edge design with functional excellence, Miele has partnered with renowned French architectural interior designer Leo Terrando and developer Calvin Huang from DCF Property Group on the high-profile First Light project in Melbourne.

This collaboration marks a fusion of world-class innovation, redefining the way we live by blending advanced home appliances with iconic modern spaces that inspire.

As the demand for seamless technology integration in design continues to rise, First Light embodies a shared vision: the future of architecture is not just about the physical space, but how its elements elevate our daily experiences.

As architects push the boundaries of residential design, the integration of Miele’s latest matte black appliances highlights their ability to complement and enhance these spaces. Miele has long led the way in creating sleek, sustainable, and smart appliances that do more than just perform—exemplified by the matte black range. Through this partnership, Miele is helping shape homes that are not only luxurious but practical, comfortable, and perfectly in tune with modern life.

Why Matte Black

In luxury residential projects like First Light, the demand for high-performing appliances that also elevate the overall design aesthetic has never been higher. Matte black finishes, in particular, are emerging as a bold, sophisticated choice for homeowners seeking both style and substance.

With the First Light project proudly featuring a stunning array of premium appliances such as the DiamondFinish induction cooktop, ArtLine matte black oven, and integrated refrigerator and freezer, these appliances not only meet the highest of Miele standards of performance but also offer seamless integration into any contemporary interior.

‘I couldn’t think of anything better to suit the apartment. The appliances are so seamless.’– Leo Terrando, Designer

A matte black finish adds a modern, refined touch to any space, complementing unique architectural features. The soft, non-reflective surface of Miele’s matte black range reduces fingerprints and smudges, maintaining a sleek, pristine look that lasts over time.

As Miele’s matte finishes gain popularity, they’re becoming the go-to choice for homeowners and designers alike, offering both practicality and visual appeal.

From the powerful performance of the ArtLine speed oven and DiamondFinish induction cooktop to the understated elegance of the matte black design, these new Miele appliances are transforming the luxury kitchen experience.

How did Miele help bring the First Light vision to

Miele played a key role in bringing the visionary First Light project to life, contributing to both the aesthetic and functional heart of this luxurious space. Designed by architect Leo Terrando and developed by Calvin Huang of DCF Property, First Light stands as a benchmark for cutting-edge design and innovation in Melbourne’s high-end real estate market.

The collaboration with Miele, alongside iconic design partner Boffi, was key in seamlessly blending technology with style. First Light showcases distinctive elements that evoke a truly Melbourne look and feel, including dark timber curved walls, a unique buffet island bench, and an elegant, minimalist design. The use of MDI surface with man-made stone further highlights the project’s commitment to sustainability, incorporating recycled materials to create a durable, non-porous finish, eliminating the need for natural stone.

“The island bench is a very clean and minimal design, a beautiful worktop that has a bevelled edge that turns inwards, and that worktop then seamlessly integrates the Miele induction cooktop.” – Edwina Withers, Director, Boffi Studio

As the first kitchen company to integrate appliances in 1980, Boffi’s ongoing collaboration with Miele ensured that First Light’s kitchen was not only visually striking but equipped with state-of-the-art, high-performance appliances that are perfectly suited for today’s luxury homes.

The combination of Miele’s renowned innovation and Boffi’s design philosophy created a space that is as functional as it is beautiful, embodying the forward-thinking spirit of the project.

At Miele, we are proud to be a part of the First Light project, helping to enhance the kitchen space functionality and bring a luxury finish and element to the overall design space.
